Pre-Conference Field Trips
1: Classic geology and mineral deposits of the Scottish Highlands

22nd–26th August, starting from and ending in Glasgow, with transport by minibus. A circular tour through the beautiful Scottish Highlands, with classic geology such as the Moine Thrust and the igneous rocks of the Isle of Skye. Visits to some of Scotland’s mineral deposits, including gold deposits at Loch Maree and Tyndrum, the barite mine at Aberfeldy, and historic workings at Strontian and Tyndrum.

2: Irish base metal deposits
21st-26th August, starting from and ending in Dublin, with transport by bus. There are direct flights from Dublin to Glasgow for the conference, which will have to be arranged separately by participants. Visits to historic copper and lead-zinc mines, as well as the active Navan mine and the Kilbricken prospect, and some beautiful Irish scenery, including the karst landscape of the Burren. £850/person (TBC)

Post-Conference Field Trips
3: Mineral deposits of Milos island, Greece
31st August – 5th September, starting and ending in Adamas Port, Milos; participants will need to arrange their own travel to Milos via Athens. Transport will be in 4 x 4 hire vehicles and volunteer drivers are needed; there will be a 25% discount on the cost of the trip for drivers. This trip will examine the relationship between mineralisation, volcanic products and alteration in the submarine to subaerial realms. Economic mineral deposits to be visited include shallow VMS, submarine Mn-Ba and epithermal Au-Ag mineralisation. The trip will also include a boat cruise around the spectacular coast of Milos.

4: The Skellefte Belt, Sweden
1st-5th September, starting and ending in Skellefteå. Participants will need to arrange their own travel to Skellefteå. Transport will be in minibuses. This trip will explore the mineral deposits of the well-known Skellefte Belt, including VMS deposits at Renström, Maurliden and Kristineberg, and the Älgträsk and Björkdal Au deposits, as well as visiting some classic outcrop localities.
